About Me

I was one of the first few pilots who transferred to 72 Squadron in 1964 from 18 Squadron when 72 reformed with the Wessex 2. I have posted a picture of the approach to the 1964 SBAC Farnborough display where we fielded 6 aircraft together with 6 from 18 Squadron, following 12 Wessex 5s from the senior service.

I left the RAF in late 1965 and became a Patent Attorney. I am now retired.

About Me

On 72 Sqn Between 93-96 as a Rigger. One of the most rewarding tours despite not so techically challanging. (Have you you seen those things today?! But they worked well!)

Saving people lives, one way or another.

It was the extras: Loads of Flying, Expeditions, Fire Duites, Go-Karting and eating Princess Dianas left over vol-au-vent and coffee in the back of Royal Flights to the mainland. (Thank you HRH) and other much more.

I moved on to other persuits: Defence Engineering, Renewables/ Consultancy and Civil Eng, Property, Justice, Civil Aviation, Education and some Environmental Projects and more.

I would like to hear from any friends from this era or those in my locallity. Groundcrew or Aircrew.

About Me

Hello there,

I have had a keen interest in aviation mostly WW2 since the age of around 5 years. I have visited many old airfields over the years and enjoy research into these. I also enjoy doing a small amount or research for the Britain at War Magazine as a volunteer. Mainly for fun in between studying for my Teaching Diploma. I am currently investigating the accident of Sgt Peter Atkinson of 72 Squadron on the 07/01/52 whilst flying Vampire VZ179. If you have any info please email me directly at [email protected]. I would be very pleased to hear from you.

Many thanks,

Clive.

About Me

Joined service in 1963 as Boy Entrant in 49th entry at Cosford.  Trained as AWM.  Left Cosford in Dec. 1964.  Posted to Odiham in ARSF.  Lasted about a month there then joined 72 Sqdn.  Had first flight in the Wessex in the Jan of '65.  Jock Tarwid was the pilot, Taff Chadwick was the crewman.  Frightened all sorts out of me.  Started a love affair with the Wessex that never faded.

Did a year in Sharjah in 1967 then back to 72.  Went on Fitters course in '69 then back to 72.  Off to 103 Sqdn in Tengah in 1972.  Back onto 41 SqdnPhantoms in '75.  Didn't like them at all, noisy smelly things whose wings didn't go round.  Finally when 41 folded did short stint on BBMF then out into the IT industry.

Exciting wasn't it.

About Me

I am the daughter of Flt. Lt. R.G.S. Wyborn who died on 12/7/52 while flying with the 72 Squadron over North Weald. I was born 5 months after his death and have inherited his log books and photos of his career in the RAF. At present I am trying to put them into some kind  of order and have an idea of his career.

His best man at his wedding was Flight Offier J. R. Cruse who I believe was also with the 72 squadron and I was looking for some information on him too.

I appreciate this was all avery long time ago but as I recently managed to contact 2 of his friends from the 208 Sqadron I thought it was worth trying. Failing that the history of the 72 squadron and what air show my father was training for would be of interest. Doris Messer

About Me

Researching my Fathers time in the RAF Regiment, we traveled quite a bit when I was a kid, Jordan, Cyprus, Singapore.

I know he was in 26 LAA squadron and later in 72 squadron, really not sure how or why he changed squadrons as I have not been in the services.

His namd was Harold George Davis or better known as Chick Davis married to my mum Kathleen.
